The Security Council took a vote on a draft resolution aiming to impose sanctions on Syria for the use of chemical weapons, resulting in 9 votes in favor and 3 against (Bolivia, China, Russian Federation), with 3 abstentions (Egypt, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan). The draft text failed to be adopted due to the veto by two permanent members of the Council (China and the Russian Federation).
