19 June 2017, New York, USA | South-South News — UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein said “compliance with international law and ensuring its respect are not optional” adding that human rights violations were “not symptoms” of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict rather “further fuel the cycle of violence which has now persisted for half a century.”

Presenting his report on violations of international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territories today (19 Jun) in Geneva, Zeid said to break this cycle of violence, the occupation must and Israel’s security concerns must be addressed. He noted that respect for human rights “is the path which leads out of this conflict, creating the space for peace” adding that this would require real political will and commitment by all stakeholders.
